Antibalistic Missile Systems Are a Part of the Nuclear War Structure
The a bm treaty was the united states and russia realized that antibalistic missile systems were really part of the overall nuclear war structure. So one side could, if one side had an effective a b m system, it could launch an attack and take out most of the opposing forces. And both sides realized that this was going to increase the risk of nuclear war. If we just allowed these a b m systems to proliferate, it wold be worse. The i and f treaty was also it was the first treaty signed which really broke the momentum of the cold war and decreased tensions in europe.
