The Council of Nicaea 2's Veneration of Images
Veneration by the Council of Nicaea 2 seems to be this, any honorable action or thought towards an image that regards the image and venerating act as being spiritually nourishing. In what manner those images were venerated by the apostles is untouched. So Nicaea 2 does not feel the need to defend the specific antiquity of kissing and bowing to images. It doesn't see a big leap, as I said before, from mundane veneration to extravagant kissing and bowed.
