Wittgenstein wrote in the philosophical investigations, if a line could speak, we could not understand him. He is making the point that the meanings of words are determined by the way in which they are used in a particular language. Wittgenstein's idea that the rules of one language may not be applicable to another language might suggest that our understanding of language and communication is relative to the particular language game that we are using.
