Ahaz went to assyria for help, after god said, i'll help you. And so he said, assyria is going to save me - but then plundered him. The people that were left were wandering around hungry and dejected. But yet they didn't blame their king. Guess who? They blamed god. It's into this darkness that god brings a piercing light.
