Are We Really Good at Detecting Authenticity in Real Life?

We're very good at reading what different emotions are when you kind of give us a set of photographs where we can. But in real life, we're actually really, really bad at it. We are the opposite of good lie detectors. And con artists aren't people who are posing for a photograph as a liar or even posing for a video as a liar. These are people for whom lying is central to their identity. Lying is what they do, it's who they are, and they lie every single moment of every single day for the most part. You don't want to spot that deception.
