The Link Between Collective Memory and Individual Memory

i think it is better to think about your memory as a sort of a mythology based on facts about history, rather thanan objective recording of events. The link between mythology and an even individual memory, but also collective memory, i think, is strong. There are dual memories of this time period, but there also are, and were, collective memories of that decade. I'm simplifying here, but hopefully you get the idea. On top of that, media a role in all this as well, again, as do certain manipulations of recollections of times by people who have a particular agenda in all of it. And of course, music plays a part as well.
