Climate Science: It's a Bad Year for Heat Waves

This year has been an exceptional year for heat waves, the number of them and their extremity. We are also seeing increasingly smashed records across the world. It's due to the physics of how different weather events are changing in a warming climate. For extreme rainfall, you see something like between seven and 20 % increasing in heavy rainfall. But this kind of event is ten or thousands of times more likely because of climate change.
