Matthew One, the First Book of the New Testament
Genealogies may seem like bare and boring lists of names to us, but within scri dthey serve a multitude of different purposes. Matthew is connecting the story that he is telling with a story that has gone before. His genealogy establishes jesus pedigree. All o these things, to some extent or other, are taking place in matthew. Chapter one. This is not a stories that has just begun. It's the story that the old testament tells, brought to its proper culmination and climax.
