The Impact of Climate Change on the Deep Ocean
The deep sea is totally reliant on the surface, apart from hydrogen vents and other chemisynthetic areas for a supply of food. We know that ocean primary production is declining, and that we'll have an impact on deep sea life. Work that mi team has done in the northwest atlantic showed that at just a one degree change in temperature led to 30 % decline in bi mass of bentit communities. So we know that our deep sea animals, because they used to living at these constant low temperatures, are very vulnerable to any changes in their physical environment.
