Is There a Big Disconnect Between the University and the Jewish Community?
The academy is not only a vocation, but it's also a kind of social club. People tend to like to associate with people who think like them and have to share their interests. The tenure system creates a kind of homogenizing influence that decreases risk taking at universities. And the diversity in terms of political attitudes on lege campus is in decline. For example, conservative faculty member is now almost extinct in the wilds of academia.
