The Self Selection Bias in Politics

I'm a big believer in incentives. I don't think we want a scenario where people are like running for office to get famous and to get rich. The one thing that the one sort of, I guess counterintuitive thing I would do is actually pay them more, but actually raise the salary. So right now the average member of Congress is making like $174,000 a year, right? Like on one hand, that sounds like a lot. But so I think we just have to think about incentives.
