I'm not sure there's an exact moment of it. I don't think he ever loses his wits. He's a man who takes his lumps. There is the torment that Yosef inflicts upon him by not telling him he's alive. The wife that he loved most of all died in childbirth. That's why he claims back his sons for Israel and Joseph's Egyptianization. It's dignified to the end.
