i don't think guns germs and steel is a work of genius, but i also don't think it's the work of some academic charlatan or an exploitative opportunist. I believe that if you're going to teach guns Germs and steel, then this is one where you really have to teach the debate. And if you don't have time to engage with the book that critically, then i think it's best to leave it off the reading list.
