The Role of Sex in Romantic Relationships
Sexual reproduction first evolved in tiny single-celled organisms about 2 billion years ago. By the time you orgasm, scientists have suggested that more than 30 major brain systems are activated. Some of the same neurochemicals involved in love are also involved in sex. Dopamine and serotonin both play a role, and the bonding hormone oxytocin is released during sexual activity in both men and women.
