Science Fiction - John Barhinge
Seudo scientific sounding explanations for impossible things are, of course, a staple of science fiction. Being able to spin something that sounds vaguely plausible, even if it doesn't mean anything, is is a harmark of some kinds of sci-fi. The john bar hinge comes from jack williamson's legion of time and refers to the point at which alternate histories diverge. And as a boy, when he was 12 years old, he bends down and either picks up a magnet or pebble from the ground. He does not become intellectually inquisitive, and does not lead to becoming an important scientist. Instead, this tyrannical empire is created in its place.
