The crash ranks as one of New Zealand's all-time deadliest disasters. Almost all of the aircraft's wreckage still lies where it came to rest on Mount Eiribus. The memorial for 16 passengers who were unidentifiable is at the Waikumidi Cemetery in Glen Eden, Auckland. Following this incident, all charter flights to Antarctica from New Zealand ceased and were not resumed until 2013.
