Mothers who internalise the perfect mother myth are more likely to experience anxiety, guilt, shame, burnout and depression. Motherhood is regarded as personal and private undertakings with no political importance. It's something that is not contributing to public life. This creates lots of different impacts and influences mothers in a variety of ways including rising rates of homelessness and poverty among older single women from Australia.
