Cicevir: Our human default is that we start out ignorant of everything and it's an arduous task to know anything. We shouldn't be too nostalgic for the past because there's an awful lot of error and superstition and bias in the past as well, he says. Cicevir was formerly the chair of the usage panel of America as a major dictionary. He thinks intellectuals tend to like top-down theories rather than bottom-up distributed wisdom of crowds.
