What Is the HPA Axis?
Cortisol is a non-tropic hormone, which is secreted by the adrenal glands. It's involved in regulation of stress responses and other things. HPA axis is one of many axes that exist as part of the endocrine system. Some hormones have effects on specific tissues, others have effects on many different tissues depending on which cells have the appropriate receptor for that hormone.
