Michigan's Only Black Representative in Congress?
The city over my shoulder is a majority black city. Black voices in Michigan have been remarkably important. When you have a community of shared common issues, goals, the community has so many unique factors and you take away their voice. I can't say a person who's not African-American cannot represent Detroit. But what I'm saying is that the reason why we defined our congressional seats based on the census were shared concerns. And we've always had two African-Americans right now. I'm the only one. Only 15% of the black vote turned out. They wanted to vote at the polls.
