The Origin of Complex Phenomenas

In monotheism and polytheism, there is only one supreme god or pantheon of gods. This reflects a powerful human intuition that the complex phenomena we see around us in the world can be explained by smaller, simpler sets of underlying causes. Sound philosophy and theology would say that it all has to go back to a single original cause. But flawed humans are flawed humans, and not everybody carries through this principle consistently.
