Nachiketa was actually a little boy, there must be a time when he was born. And so the Upanishads must have come after him and all that is completely unacceptable to the traditionalist. This is Upanishads, part of the Vedas, timeless. So these are called Archiikas, stories which are embedded in the scriptures for a purpose. What is the purpose? We will see. The first purpose is that to show us certain things, for example, the importance of undergoing so much hardship to attain the knowledge of Brahman.
