There are times when, and this is really the meat of what I want to say here, there are times when that imagined audience, that imagined ear is made overt. So we might have something like Henry Wadsworth,. long fellow, Paul Revere's ride, starts off with listen my children and you shall hear of the midnight ride of Paul Revere. But at the same time, actual narrative audience, we're not being cast as him. We're sort of invited in more as eavesdroppers.
