The Role of the Gluteus Maximus in Yoga

The glutes are tri-planar muscles which means they have the potential to move the hip joint in three different planes. They play a primary organizational role for other muscle groups so your gluteus maximus works with the hamstrings as the extensors, abductors or lateral stabilizers and external rotators. If you don't have the big strong efficient muscle to help facilitate all of those movements then you're likely to have greater fatigue in all of those other muscles.
