What's the Importance of What You Throw Into the Side?

Too often I see people taking sort of what comes out of the box or what's the default or the setup as they're given. And they don't even stop and try and map that to the needs of the organization. So they end up with things that don't necessarily reflect what they need in their system. It's a great point, you came from physics world so you know it better than me. But the measurement problem of having something continuous and then you need to somehow sample it in intervals. We could in purely measure three billion points per second but where are you going to store it how you're going to transmit it remotely?
