The Bay of Tapestry

By 1066, King Edward the Confessor is on his deathbed. In his last moments he tells Earl Harold that he should take the crown. The Anglo-Saxon council confirms the dying King's decision. Within 48 hours, King Harold the Second is crowned. Duke William of Normandy still believes the throne belongs to him. He embarks on a huge program to prepare an invasion fleet. Historians estimate it includes between 700 and 2,000 large ships.
