Is There a Contradiction in the Goldilocks Effect?
I'm hearing a couple of things there. One, this last thing that you are talking about, the reference points. I'm reminded of a quote by richard swerman sat that you only understand things relative to things you already understand. So, yes. And the other, which i wanted to point out, is that it might sound like there's a contradiction in saying that the greater the cognitive effort you expend, the more you learn. Yet, if you consider the learning process often has to surmount the load hanging on to someone's talk, transient information and getting through the complicated syntax of writing or speaking.
