Do Monks Get Distracted?

Monks were certainly not the first to get distracted, that's something that is just endemic to the condition of being human. But they seem to have been the first at least in the Greco-Roman world to say this seems to be a kind of symptom of something deeper and more serious that amounts to world negligence. I think came to this conclusion in part because they had done so much work already to create lives for themselves that will enable them to concentrate on what mattered. So it's not the only reason we're obsessed with it now or continue to find it something that deserves a solution but the orientation of the problem may have started with early Christian monks.
