I think that serverless makes things relatively speaking better because in a traditional application, you have a couple deficiencies. One is that application runs for a long time, which means that malware and command and control connections can be persisted. In a monolithic application, you typically are going to grant way too much access to that VM. And if I have to give serverless any dings on their report card, it's really the marketing. That code clearly cannot do a whole lot of damage. When in reality, it can do literally anything that any other piece of compute can do.
