The Apple III was a bigger, more powerful version of the Apple II. Steve Jobs insisted that the three should rely on passive cooling and should be totally silent during operations. This led to crippling overheating issues that, during prolonged use, would toast the machine. The new machine had a new operating system that was a lot more complicated than anything Apple had previously developed.
