The Function of the Sacrifices in Propitiating God

James, I'm trying to understand if there is a ransom component of the atonement. So both in the Passover sacrifice and then in these Levitical sacrifices, we see the function that the sacrifices play in propitiating God and averting his wrath. We'll talk about ransom later on. In certain cases, instead of bringing an animal sacrifice, you could bring a ransom payment instead. And this payment would stand in for the sacrifice and thereby achieve atonement.
