Bonaparte called in the reserve, nearly a thousand more men plus six more cannon. The Republicans had entered the battle short on ammunition and after over an hour of firing, their supplies were dangerously depleted. Right-wing pamphlets depicted the events of 13 Vande-Mier as a mass slaughter of peaceful protesters rather than a hard-fought resistance against an attempted coup.
