What's the Difference Between Spot and Contract Free Freight Rates?
Israel based carrier Zim posted a third quarter average freight rate growth of about 4% compared to 2021. This despite repeated comments regarding spot market rate declines and prices falling below break even points in some trades. The Platts Container Rate Index which is a weighted average of our key global assessments fell by nearly 45%. So carriers are able to post these year on year gains due to the high split of contracted freight.
