Is Consciousness Required for General Intelligence?
It's conceivable that consciousness is required for general intelligence, but i think youu need a separate argument for that. And so i think there's a pretty important distinction to be made between building a conscious machine and building one that can reason across different domains. I would not expect consciousness to fall out of the first algritms that are able to accomplish those things. Not necessarily that it will experience the world in the same way that we do, just that it can reason in an open handed way. But if it's not, i don't know why an algorithm couldn't do it.
