The Origins of the Individual
Jonathan Dollymore: The individual has been in crisis from the very beginning. It's often quite simplistic to assume that there was once a time when the individual’s confident, secure, knew exactly who he or she was,. My argument is actually that the individuals live those contradictions. They live those conflicting ideas. I agree with Richard. Of course there are conflicting ideologies of the individual and it's the philosopher's task to separate them out.
