The Importance of Still Water
I've spent a lot of my adult life being quite sort of anxious about money and feeling quite keen to go to a restaurant. So if I'm going for lunch with someone and it feels a slightly indulgent thing to do, I comfort myself with a thought of a nice class of still water in the fridge. My mum was a big believer in that restaurants should fulfil their legal obligation to provide free tap water. Once on a, it is a legal requirement but not in certain parts of Europe. But once on a family trip, my mum made us leave a restaurant because they were charging us for tap water. And she definitely decided that it was some sort of standoff that she needed to call
