The Origins of the Red Mercury Rumors
In the early days of the red mercury rumors, a number of journalists and scientists went looking for answers. While few of their sources were willing to publicly identify themselves, most of them claimed to be accepted as nuclear scientists. According to his source, red mercury wasn't the code for plutonium but for lithium-6. That's not nearly as exotic or intriguing as a baseball sized fusion bomb, but it's totally realistic.
