There's always going to be debate where people are in favor of one theoretical commitment or another. And that's okay. If you want to use linguistic theory for your conlang, pick what you want and go with it. There's nothing wrong with doing that because it really is an art form and you're the creator of it. All theories are trying to describe natural data. The proving is a math thing and science you do evidence. But some of the more real and physical things that we do find can help us understand phonetics.
