The Effects of Diet on Muscle Growth

The protein turnover rate of rodent muscle is about sevenfold greater than humans. Their rates of carbohydrate oxidation are much higher, both due to their high metabolic rates. We know that the interventions to induce wasting in rodents tend to be more severe than you get in humans. Putting a rodent in a cast produces a more dramatic response than a human because clearly the rodent doesn't understand exactly what's going on.
