The Church Is an Institution in Service of the Mystery of Christ
Monica went to mass twice a day. This was especially in the North African church. One of the most prominent images for the church is as a mother. Augustine is completely dead set against any sort of DIY Christianity. He didn't see the church primarily as an institution, but it's an institution in service of this deep mystery of Christ's solidarity with us.
