The Role of Incentives in Cybersecurity
There's a notion that if someone else is getting away with something, you are more okay with trying to get away with something yourself. Technology is making systems larger and more complex, which makes them more vulnerable to hacking. When I teach cybersecurity here at the Kennedy School, the School of Government, I speak about economic and societal incentives. designing for incentives is a much better way of building security than technology that tries to push back against incentives.
