The Importance of Being Human

I think the first thing was to begin with these characters as human beings, not as, or this is a poor family. That wasn't what I began with. And then start layering every other thing onto that. The second thing was that I think I had a little, just a little bit of access in that my mom's family, my maternal grandparents, leave,. one of them is like no, leave in the part of town that I'm writing about. So that was some of what I remembered and I built with.
