The Great Way Has No Root

Hakuen Zengi: Joshu's zen is lip zen. His whole body is a mouth. A monk asked, asking Joshu, the great way has no root. How can it be expressed? Joshu said, you just expressed it. This is so-called verbal samadhi. Hakuen very likely knew the famous poem composed some 300 years after Joshu's dad by Dogan's Chinese master, Tianan Ruxing. The poem is called Wind Bell.
