The Great Way Has No Root
Hakuen Zengi: Joshu's zen is lip zen. His whole body is a mouth. A monk asked, asking Joshu, the great way has no root. How can it be expressed? Joshu said, you just expressed it. This is so-called verbal samadhi. Hakuen very likely knew the famous poem composed some 300 years after Joshu's dad by Dogan's Chinese master, Tianan Ruxing. The poem is called Wind Bell. All day long, it speaks of Prashna Para Mita for everyone.
