During this period, Mestisaje were treated as a vehicle to Blanca Amiento. After the conservative triumph of the Caudios in the middle third of the 19th century, liberalism rebounded and grew more attractive to most Latin Americans. Latinos witnessed the monumental economic, industrial, and political successes of liberal Europe and after 1870, the United States. But liberal reforms would be necessary to open up Latin American economies to the free market and to beef up their infrastructure.
