The History of the Potato Head
In 1846, more than 350,000 Irish peasants were completely unable to feed themselves. The greatest number of deaths were not directly from nutritional deficiency diseases, but from diseases brought on by malnutrition. In essence, the variety of terrible conditions each acted as their own ingredient that created a cauldron of suffering and death. Survivors' accounts of the harrowing period are truly harrowing.
