A large percentage of the chinese economy, especially that higher value and conomy is up river from shanghai. The three gorgeos dam or the south north water transfer project are among them. There's some suspicion that the sitan earthquake may have been caused by the weight of the water. Any one of those things seems like it would lead to dramatic negative consequences.
