Prince Saunders: A History of Freemasonry
Prince Hall was a prominent Freemason in the late 18th century. He used his clout to try to gain New York's enslaved and free blacks a place in Freemasonry but also in education and the military. Saunders would capitalize on his educational background to begin his critical work in aiding a newly independent Haiti. In some ways, he was probably perceived as fairly threatening to the status quo.
