There Are No Shelters at All for the Population
There were no shelters at all for the population, unless you could build your own. The official reason was money - it would have bankrupted britain to pervided shelters. So we had nothing, unless you were quite well off and had the money to build your own shelter. There were plenty of companies who popped up in the eighties in particular, who would build you a shelter in your back garden. But firstly, you had to have a garden. Lots of people in britain, of course, live in flats and don't have a Garden. And you needed, say, ten thousand ounds to build this shelter. Some building societies were offer you mortgages so
