Jera mathi is vice president and the regional director for africa at the world resources institute. She helped run the organization started by her mother, who passed away in two thousand 11. In the forty plus years since the green belt movement was first founded, hundreds of thousands of women have gotten involved. Over five thousand tree nurseries have been created. So far, over 51 million trees have been planted in alone.
