How I Met a Black Woman in Prison
When I first went to see her in prison, she almost decided not to see me. She was very firm and clear that other people were more deserving of being interviewed. There was something sort of impressive about that because she might have wanted to keep the attention for herself. For a long time, I think she was very ambivalent. It really wasn't until she had been released, until I had really been pursuing her for a couple of years that she started trusting me.
